The Erdington MP took to Twitter after a 26-year-old police officer was attacked.
The attack happened on Tuesday afternoon on Wood End Road.
While trying to arrest someone, the officer was stabbed in the neck and the chest although his injuries aren't thought to be life threatening. IT was a pre-planned arrest and a 48-year-old man's in custody on suspicion of two counts of GBH.
MP Jack Dromey says his "thoughts are with him".
Shocked to hear of the stabbing of a brave 26 year old @WMPolice officer in #Erdington protecting our community. Our thoughts are with him https://t.co/Vdke0rJFOy
— Jack Dromey MP (@JackDromeyMP) 13 December 2017Chief Superintendent Kenny Bell said: "This incident highlights once again the dangers officers face every single day, as they put themselves in harm’s way to deal with dangerous situations.
"The very nature of the job means officers go into challenging situations and acknowledge the risks they face. Despite this, officers put themselves on the front line protecting our communities from harm.
"The officer’s family have been informed and will be supported by our wider police family. Nothing can prepare family members for this type of incident and our thoughts are with them.
"We’d like to thank the public for their cooperation and patience as the cordon caused added travel disruption in the area."
